AFC succumbed to a disappointing defeat against a well-organised and physical Earlsfield United side. Starting the brighter side on a terrible pitch, Walcountians had the chance to take an early lead but a Sam Grosser penalty struck the post. He quickly made amends, though, clinically finishing when put through on goal from a Ryan Thomas flick on. Walcountians couldn’t make their dominance pay and the game was turned on its head in the space of a few minutes. A George Harrington handball resulted in an Earlsfield penalty that was smashed home, before an Earlsfield player rose well to head in to the roof of the net from a corner.
With half time approaching AFC snatched an equaliser when a Nathan Leonard corner kick was flicked on and finished by Sam Grosser to get his second goal of the game.
The first half started with two goals in the first five minutes. A defensive mix up gifted Earlsfield a goal to restore their lead, but the Counts were soon level when a raking Nathan Leonard pass was superbly controlled by Aidan Hawkins on the run, who then pulled the ball back for Ryan Thomas to slot home. With the game finely poised it was Earlsfield who snatched the winner, though, when poor defending meant a long ball was not dealt with and the striker hammered the ball past Jack Farthing in the AFC goal.
A bitterly disappointing defeat in a game that could have gone either way, but the league table remains wide open with plenty of teams within just a few points of each other.
