Walcountians made light work of the horrendous playing conditions to record a comfortable victory over bottom side Chelsea Rovers, leaving them in a competitive position ahead of the Christmas break.
The better side from the off, AFC raced in to a lead with a Dara Obakin brace. It took little time for the lead to be extended, when Sam Grosser slotted home when put through on goal. A poor clearance by Chelsea Rovers’ goalkeeper found its way to Steve Scola, who lifted the ball in to the back of net from just over 20 yards, meaning the Counts were four goals to the good by the half hour mark. Chelsea pulled a goal back from a direct free kick, but it was 5-1 by half time when Sam Grosser was hacked down in the area before scoring the resulting penalty.
Walcountians dominated possession in the second half, although the game lost its intensity as the freezing wind and sleet worsened. Dara Obakin completed his first ever hat-trick for the club before Chelsea Rovers doubled their tally. Ryan Thomas added the seventh when he smashed home from a Luke Rodgers cut back, before the game petered out without further additions to the scoreline.
AFC return to action on Saturday 5th January with an away trip to Sporting 50, before being scheduled for two home games on the bounce. First, they take on AC Malden in the league followed by a last-16 tie in the Surrey Intermediate Cup against Staines Lammas FC.
