An injury-stricken AFC could only muster a point in horrendous conditions against Earlsfield United, despite having the better of the game and creating numerous chances. Playing in to a strong wind and pouring rain, Walcountians had the better of the opening half hour. A Sam Grosser free kick crashed against the bar, and Harry Scola had two chances to convert crosses but both went just past the post. Often getting in behind the Earlsfield defence, George Harrington had the ball in the back of the net but was adjudged offside. Nathan Leonard was also clean through on goal but chopped down just outside the area, with the resulting free kick not testing the Earlsfield keeper.
At the other end of the pitch, Earlsfield looked dangerous from set pieces and George Harrington superbly cleared a goal-bound header off the line. AFC took the lead soon after, with George Harrington once again getting in behind and floating a cross towards the back post, where Ben Macey made no mistake from six yards out.
With 15 minutes to go before the break the game was turned on its head. AFC lost Dan Haines to a head injury, leaving them with just one recognised defender on the pitch. Two quick goals followed from the Earlsfield striker who managed to get in behind and finish well on both occasions, leaving Walcountians 2-1 down at the break.
AFC were the brighter after the break and pushed for an equaliser but couldn’t capitalise when getting in to good positions in the final third. However, an equaliser did come 25 minutes from time when George Harrington again got in behind and cut the ball back for Ben Macey to slot home his second of the game. After the goal the game became somewhat more cagey as the conditions continued to worsen, and both sides were limited to half chances before the whistle went to see the game finish 2-2.
