AFC progressed to the next round of the Surrey Intermediate Cup with a 2-0 win over current league leaders Kew Park Rangers. In a game that Walcountians controlled from start to finish, the first half ended goalless. AFC were defensively solid and Kew Park struggled to create anything despite the significant wind advantage, but some slick build up play and set pieces from the Counts led to a number of untaken chances for the home side to make the breakthrough.
The second half took the same pattern as the first, with AFC dominating play but not managing to break the deadlock. It wasn’t until just over 20 minutes from time that the lead finally came when a Nathan Leonard free kick found its way to Harry Scola at the far post to tap in. With the weather and conditions worsening Walcountians were holding on to their lead comfortably and then finally put the game to bed seven minutes from time when Ben Macey latched on to a through ball and poked past the onrushing keeper.
A confident display means that AFC take on Staines Lammas FC of the Surrey Elite Intermediate League in the 3rd round. It is a home tie, and scheduled to take place on the 19th January 2019.
